Why we built Fabl to reduce inbox noise for labels while helping artists find genuine matches. Quality over quantity, always.

A comprehensive guide for independent musicians on how to research, evaluate, and approach record labels that actually fit your sound and career goals.
Industry InsightsA&Rs receive hundreds of demos weekly. Learn the 7 things that make labels hit play, and what gets your submission instantly deleted.
Every A&R inbox tells the same story: hundreds of demos, most completely wrong for the label. Artists spray-and-pray. Labels drown in noise. Nobody wins.
We built Fabl to change that.
The demo submission process is fundamentally broken. Artists face thousands of labels with no clear way to know which ones fit their sound. So they do what seems logical: submit everywhere and hope something sticks.
The result? Labels receive an overwhelming volume of irrelevant demos:
This wastes everyone's time. A&R teams spend hours filtering through demos that never should have landed in their inbox. Artists get discouraged by rejection after rejection, not realizing the labels were never a fit in the first place.
Fabl takes a different approach. Instead of making it easier to submit demos (which would just increase the noise), we help artists understand fit before they reach out.
Here's how it works:
When an artist uploads their track, our AI analyzes its sonic characteristics: BPM, key, genre, mood, energy level, and production style. This creates a detailed fingerprint of the music.
We've analyzed the release catalogs of 1,700+ labels. We know what BPM ranges they typically release, what keys are common, what genres and subgenres they favor, and what the overall vibe of their catalog is.
Artists see a compatibility score for each label, with detailed breakdowns explaining why. A 92% match means something. A 34% match also means something: this probably isn't the right label for this track.
This is crucial. When a label isn't a good fit, we tell the artist why. "Your track is 174 BPM, but this label typically releases between 122-128 BPM." Now they understand. They won't waste their time or the label's time.
If you run a label, here's what Fabl means for you:
Fewer irrelevant demos. When artists see a low match score with clear reasoning, they're less likely to submit anyway. They'll focus on labels that actually fit.
More informed submissions. The artists who do reach out have done their homework. They've seen the match data. They understand your catalog. They're not guessing.
Pre-qualified leads. Think of it like this: instead of sorting through 100 random demos, you're reviewing 20 from artists who genuinely align with your sound.
No additional work for you. We don't require labels to sign up, create profiles, or change their submission process. We analyze publicly available release data to understand your catalog. You don't have to do anything.
For producers and artists, Fabl provides:
Clarity. Stop wondering if a label is right for you. See the data.
Confidence. When you do reach out, you know you're a genuine match.
Efficiency. Focus your energy on labels that make sense, not shotgun submissions.
Learning. Understand why certain labels fit your sound and others don't. This knowledge helps you grow as an artist and make better decisions about your career.
We could have built a tool that makes mass submissions easier. We didn't. That would just make the problem worse.
Instead, we built something that rewards fit over volume. Our matching algorithm doesn't encourage spray-and-pray. It encourages thoughtful, targeted outreach.
The best demo is one that lands in front of the right A&R. Not one of hundreds landing in the wrong inbox.
Fabl isn't just for artists. We're thinking about every stakeholder in the music ecosystem:
If you're a label owner, A&R, or industry professional with questions about Fabl, we'd love to hear from you. We're building this to work for everyone, and your input matters.
